When someone dies, notifying Ageas is one of the key tasks for the executor or next of kin. This guide explains exactly who to contact, what to say, what documents you will need, and how long Ageas takes to process a bereavement notification.

Call 0800 169 4060. Ageas is primarily a business-to-business insurer and many policies are arranged through brokers. If the policy was arranged through a broker, contact the broker first — they may handle the notification on your behalf.
Ageas underwrites a wide range of insurance products including home, car, pet, travel, and commercial insurance. Check the policy documents to confirm the insurer is Ageas (it may appear as the underwriter behind a broker brand).
Ageas will cancel the policy from the date of death and refund any unused premium on a pro-rata basis. If the deceased held a joint policy, Ageas may be able to transfer it to the surviving policyholder.
If there was an outstanding claim at the time of death, the executor can continue it on behalf of the estate. Notify Ageas of the death and the claims team will liaise with the executor.
Have multiple certified copies of the death certificate ready. Banks and financial institutions each require an original or certified copy — you cannot usually pass a single copy between organisations. See our guide to how many death certificates you need.
Ageas typically takes 2–4 weeks to process a bereavement notification once all required documents have been received.
During this period, accounts or services will typically be frozen until the estate is administered. This means no new transactions can be authorised.
If the policy was arranged through a comparison site or a broker, contact the broker first. They will notify Ageas and handle the cancellation on your behalf, simplifying the process.

Once Ageas receives your notification and confirms receipt, the account or service will be frozen and no new transactions will be authorised. Estate administration can then begin.
Ageas will confirm receipt of your notification and advise you of any next steps required to close or transfer the account or policy. Keep a record of all correspondence and reference numbers for the estate file.
Do not delay notifying Ageas
Direct debits and standing orders may continue to be charged after death. Some organisations treat the estate as the debtor for any charges incurred before notification. Notifying Ageas promptly protects the estate from unnecessary costs.
